Arkham Horror Toolkit App Reviews

Worth it.

This app is worth it for the fact that I can pick outerworld cards by name. In the physical game the cads are hard to read due to my color blindness. I could not tell which gate cards were which by color alone. Only reason this does not get five stars is the need to buy the expansions.

Great companion app to AH!

This app is a great idea, it works well, and it looks nice. I hope FFG continues to support and improve this app and also create apple like this for more of their games.

Excelent First Pass!

These tools will make running future full games of Arkum much easier. I just ran a game with all 7 expansions and it would have been great to free up the space taken by all the location cards! Also the size of the gate card stack made it precarious so the app is much better. I would love to see a iPad version so the map can be bigger. Tracking for things that vary depending on the number of players would be good, ie, moneters in outskirts/ gates open to loose etc... perhaps even a Old One sheel like the investigator sheet to keep track of its progress... Networking between iDevices would be a great addition. All in all well worth it now, lots of room to grow.

Great Resource while Playing

This app is a great addition to running and playing the game. We just finished a game using the location decks and it definitely opened up space on the table. While playing, the newest player wanted to look through the characters, and it was difficult to switch between characters. Not impossible, just difficult. A great addition would be a "back" button from the selected character, to the galley of characters. Also, having no way out of the character photo album, back to the main page, is a little annoying. Easy to get around, but having a back button would be even easier. All in all, feat app for the serious game player. Would love to see an app that I could actually play the game with other people.

Die roller doesnt work on my 3G

I cant see any of the dice in the die roller on my 3G using iOS 4.2.1. I can hear the sound effects, but the interface is otherwise unresponsive. The rest of the app seems to work fine.

Such a timesaver

This app has cut down on my set up time so much. I wish you could choose more then one investigated at a time though.

Its pretty good

Beautiful design and I did buy an expansion but with all this work I wish I could play at least a paired down one person game. I use the dice roller since picking the cards is actually the fun part for me. Update: I like the new numbers when you hold your finger over the die picture. It takes a bit too long and I want all possible numbers so I can have the number menu up and hit whichever number I want. Instead I have to close it if I want one or two. I love the blessed/cursed option with the number of successes. I like to doing things on my phone when I am out of the house and I would like some use for this app when Im not at the table other than just reading the cards.

Great app, but buggy

This is such an awesome app. It cuts down on set up time and table space dramatically. Perhaps its my iPod, but it the app is glitchy at times. Ive got it installed on an iPod 2 ver. 4.2.1. A couple of times it locked my iPod up, even the Home button was unresponsive. Also, the dice roller doesnt work. The dice arent visible, yet I can hear them rolling. Another problem Ive had is when starting the app. Sometimes the screen will go black as if its starting, but it will go back to the Home screen. However, when I start it a second time, it loads normally. One thing Id like to see is an option to shuffle the decks. When I close the app, the last location card drawn is still there.

need more than 1 investigator

handy tool but i play solitaire with 4 investigators and this tool kit handles only one at a time. one investigator usually spells death in 10 minutes within the game.

Extremely disappointing

I was excited when this was announced, but I was hoping for much more. I want something that will help cut down on the bookkeeping required for an Arkham game (keeping track of Mythos cards, drawing from the monster cup, tracking gates and Doom tokens, etc.) -- this app does none of it, and even the character sheet portion feels incomplete, as you cant assign items or spells to an investigator or track multiple investigators in a single game. Also, nickel-and-diming customers for each expansion seems kind of poor. Come on, Fantasy Flight... Step up and give us the app that this game deserves (and desperately needs).

A good start

This is a really great start for an Arkham Horror game aid. A few thoughts that would make it better: - tracking more details for the investigator than just stamina, sanity, clue tokens, and money, such as injuries, madnesses, skills, etc. - showing the actual value of die rolls. Although the app does allow you to specify blessed or cursed status for what constitute a success, there are several game elements that rely on the actual value of the die (roll a 1 to do x, on a 6 you do y, etc) - tracking overall game stats, like terror track, doom tokens, monster limit, etc.

Great App for Locations, All Else Needs Work

The best thing about this application is the table space it saves me from not having to lay out all the location and other world decks. Since the board game itself is a massive table hog, its a great time and space saver not having to sort all those decks out... I can just use this app now. That alone is worth the price. On the downside, all of the other features are kind of pointless. Being able to keep track of only one investigator seems an odd design choice. One would think multiple investigator tracking would be easy to program, so the limit of only one seems odd. The lack of being able to track injury, madness, power tokens, etc. also makes this kind of worthless. The dice roller is very buggy. With all the beautiful dice roller apps out there, you would think FFG would have knocked this out of the park on the first swing. Often the dice graphics wont load (although you can hear them roll) or it crashes the whole app. The omission of the GOOs seems strange. Why no GOO cards where we can also track doom tokens? I would also like to see the addition of a Mythos deck. Of all the omissions, I think this should be addressed first. Finally, charging for each expansion seems chintzy. We did buy the physical copies already... maybe up the app by a buck or two and include those. Regardless, Im still giving it 4 stars because of the Location Deck feature and the immense time/space saver that it is. Its a recommended buy for that feature alone. If youre looking at getting this Toolkit for anything else, dont bother... at least until they fix everything.

Ok

With only one investigator and no native iPad support this app gets dinged a few stars. It is a start in the right direction to help with setup and play of a truly awesome game. Side note - Fantasy Flight please make a full iPad board game of Arkham Horror. I own the board game but would be willing to shell out another $40 bucks to play on my iPad when I have the time. I truly believe that there is a huge market for this and not only would you sell more board games of Arkham Horror. You would be able to expose many more people to this wonderful game. I hope you guys/gals considering doing this in the future. Keep up the good work.

Great AH tool

It doesnt replace the board game but cuts down the setup and playtime significantly.

Terrible!!!!!!!!

Only includes the base version Nowhere in the description does it tell you that only get the base and NO expansions. I have spent a ton of money on the board game already. I dont need to spend another $20 on apps to make it worthwhile. I thought fantasy flight was trying to make a cool app. Turns out they are just trying to make more money. Refund!

Back to 5 stars!

I turned on my iPod today and BLAM! all my in app purchases were back. I dont know why, but Im excited I didnt have to rebut the stuff for this app. Great app, really speeds up play. Id like to see a mythos deck, but this needs to have an ancient one tracker.

Good but needs IPad support

The app is perfect for the iPhone as a companion to the game, but really, really needs iPad native support. If for no other reason, the map is really small on the iPhone and would be perfect for the iPad. Itd be awesome to actually play the game on the iPad, but Id settle for use of the bigger screen.

Very nice

I really like this, and for what it currently offers, I only have 2 complaints. First, Id love an iPad version. Second involves the location decks. Theyre TOO randomized. I found several times during one game where I got the same encounter twice in a row. Once in the same turn (when two cards are chosen and one selected). If its possible, it would be best to indicate a start to the game and have the decks randomized at that time, which each card taken in turn so until each encounter is chosen, then have the deck randomized again. Something to that effect. I really didnt like getting the same encounter too often like I did. Otherwise, for what this is, it is fantastic. I can see the problem with including things like item decks, but it would be nice. But it should be easy enough to track things like the story cards, as well as cards like Retainers, Bank Loans, Deputy, etc.

Its great but

I like this very much except it needs to just be switched over to where you can just play the actual game. I dont think it would take much further development. And considering there is already a talismanesque game on here fantasy flight might want to get on the ball.

A+

Great app. Works as advertised. Sometimes I pull encounter cards just for fun. Graphics and dice roller are beautiful.
